The Role
The Analytics team at AHADI is looking to recruit people with strong quantitative and public health skills and an interest in using analytics to support priority-setting and decision-making in countries with high disease burden. This position will focus on analyzing health impact, health financing and programmatic cost data in the context of national programmatic and health sector strategic planning, resource prioritization, and delivery.
We are looking for a health economist with strong quantitative skills, a keen curiosity, a proactive approach to solving problems, and excellent oral and written communication.
AHADI’s analytics team analyzes field, trial, survey, and routine health system data; develops, configures, calibrates, and applies disease transmission and geospatial models; and designs and builds new data and analytics solutions to answer questions aimed at informing public health decision-making. The team supports training, educational, and skills development initiatives offered by AHADI or our partners and is actively engaged with the broader health analytics community.

Responsibilities
We seek a Health Economist to analyze public health impact, health financing data using multiple quantitative methods to support priority-setting and analysis needs of the countries we serve. The HealthEconomist should be comfortable with the entire data analysis and policy translation pipeline, from data assembly and management to analysis, evaluation, and engaging effectively with public health practitioners to understand and deliver on their needs. The Health Economist must be highly flexible and able to adapt methodological and communication approaches to meet different needs.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Can perform statistical analysis and writes software code (in R and/or Stata) to manage, visualize, analyze, and model a variety of cost and economic data types
- Identifies and applies appropriate quantitative and statistical methods for the problem at hand
- Liaises between public health partners, financing partners, and analysis partners
- Prepares reports and presentations to effectively communicate methods and findings to stakeholders, including ministries of health and other partners
- Trains, supervises, and collaborates with partner individuals and institutions to support upskilling of local public health analytics talent
Other responsibilities may include:
- Supports multiple AHADI initiatives as needed across the cost and economic data and analysis pipeline
- Supports, facilitates, and/or co-instructs in training initiatives offered by AHADI or its partners, as appropriate to the hire’s individual expertise
- Prepares manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in health economics; alternatively, Ph.D.in a related quantitative field and at 2+ years’ experience working in health economics, health financing, or econometrics
- Experience working in costing or cost-effectiveness analysis of health interventions
- Experience and skills in health financing assessments
- Experience in statistical analysis, including statistical tests and basic regressions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in econometrics and its application to the economics of health systems such as equity and efficiency analysis
- Experience in using modeling approaches in cost-effectiveness analysis, including decision trees and Markov models
- Experience working with ministries of health or public health departments
- Exposure to policymaking processes and data-to-action frameworks
- Experience in analysis of epidemiological, public health, clinical trial, or other health data
- Published articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Minimum Competencies
- Professional proficiency in English or French
- Proficiency in working with cost and financial data, including assembly, management, analysis, and interpretation
- Proficiency in at least one data analysis language (R or Stata)
- Proficiency in data visualization
- Clear and effective communication of quantitative work to non-experts
- Ability to deliver on multiple priorities and programs of work with diverse methodological approaches
- Ability to work occasional extended hours to meet a deadline
- Ability to work productively as part of a team as well as independently drive a program of work to completion
- Ability to effectively deliver outputs and collaborate with team members in a remote, distributed working environment
Preferred Competencies
- Professional proficiency in both English and French
- Familiarity with health systems and health delivery
- Familiarity with issues of public health in African settings
