The Role

Applied Health Analytics for Delivery & Innovation (AHADI) is a values-driven organization where our team members care deeply about enabling self-reliance in public health analytics in Africa. AHADI is looking for early career analysts and technicians with strong quantitative and/or software skills and an interest in using analytics to support health priority-setting and decision-making in countries with high disease burden. These positions will cross AHADI’s portfolio of public health analytics program of work. We expect to hire Assistant Research and Technical Officers (ARTOs) in the fields of:

  1. GIS or geospatial analysis
  2. computer science or software engineering,
  3. statistics or biostatistics, and
  4. econometrics.

Responsibilities

The ARTOs contribute to AHADI’s work in supporting the delivery of public health analytics products and capacity in Africa. ARTOs will be involved in data assembly, cleaning, formatting, analysis and interpretation. The types of analysis will range from basic descriptive analysis to GIS, advanced analytics, digital solutions, and AI, depending on the project and ARTO.

The ARTOs posts will offer high level exposure to public health analytics and data science as well as mentorship. The posts are both mentally and technically demanding. In addition to core basic skills, applicants will be required to demonstrate high levels of professionalism and productivity.

Primary responsibilities include:

Each ARTO’s specific primary responsibilities will be defined based on project designation and will be part of the contract agreement of the successful applicants. In general, primary responsibilities include:

  • Writes software code to manage, visualize, analyze, and/or model a variety of data types
  • Identifies and applies appropriate methods for the problem at hand
  • Supports AHADI’s analytics team on data, software, and analysis needs

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Supports multiple AHADI initiatives as needed across the data and analysis pipeline
  • Supports, facilitates, and/or co-instructs in training initiatives offered by AHADI or its partners, as appropriate to the hire’s individual expertise
  • Prepares manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the field of mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, geography, economics, econometrics or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree conferred within the last three years
  • Kenyan citizen or with residency permit in Kenya
  • Able to work from AHADI’s Nairobi office
